ECU fires head football coach Ruffin McNeill

GREENVILLE, N.C. — East Carolina University has fired head football coach Ruffin McNeill.

“After deliberate evaluation, the decision has been made to move our football program in a different direction with new leadership,” ECU athletics director, Jeff Compher, said Friday.

ECU had a winning record in McNeill’s six seasons, going 42-34 overall, but a loss last Saturday to Cincinnati that ended the team’s bowl hopes may have sped McNeill’s dismissal. The Pirates finished 5-7 this season.
