EVANSVILLE, Ind. — A 15-year-old boy accidentally shot his mom in a Target parking lot on Thanksgiving night.

According to the Evansville Courier & Press, Evansville police said the incident happened at about 9:40 p.m. — a few hours into the Black Friday rush for Target, which opened at 6 p.m.

Investigators said the teen found the handgun under one of the vehicle’s seats. They said they believe the teen thought the safety was activated.

The boy’s mom, identified as Stacey Craven, was shot in the back and taken to a hospital, but her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Evansville police said on Friday that no charges are expected to be filed.
