Fatal car wreck closes U.S. 29 N. in Greensboro

GREENSBORO, NC – A fatal two car collision in 4700 block closed U.S.29 N. for hours Friday night.

Police said that James Ray, 78, of Charlotte, was headed southbound on U.S. 29 around 8 p.m. when he tried to make a left turn onto Anita Lane.

Ray failed to yield to oncoming northbound traffic and caused a collision with India Shanice Valentine Robinson, 21, of Martinsville, police said.

Police said that both drivers and Portia Bonita Jordan, a passenger in Robinson’s car, were taken to Moses Cone Hospital for treatment.

Jordan died from her injuries at the hospital, according to police.

Police said Ray and Robinson are still being treated for their injuries.

Ray was cited with a Safe Movement violation and Misdemeanor Death by Vehicle, police said.

Police said that U.S. 29 N. reopened around 4 a.m. Saturday.
