The day before Thanksgiving means a lot of preparation for restaurants and stores.
In downtown Greensboro, pumpkin and sweet potato pie had some competition.
Cheesecakes were steadily moving out the door at Cheesecakes by Alex.
“We do like a pumpkin, a sweet potato, the bourbon butter pecan, all good fall flavors that kind of go well with a Thanksgiving Dinner,” Elli Fulton, shift manager at Cheesecakes by Alex, said.
While employees there were dishing out desserts, the staff at J&S Cafeteria in High Point was getting ready for the main course.
“We actually have to start on Monday making the cornbread and the biscuits because of the process that it has to go through. A lot of places are using a mix and they’re bringing in dehydrated bread, we're making ours from scratch,” Jeff Lord, vice president of operations at J&S Cafeteria, said.
Thanksgiving is the company’s second-busiest day of the year behind New Year’s. The staff will cook more than 500 pounds of turkey breasts ahead of Thursday -- a task that requires preparation days before Thanksgiving.
After enjoying Thanksgiving dinner, many will go shopping.
Best Buy in Greensboro is expecting at least 5,000 people to walk through its doors during for Thanksgiving/Black Friday sales.
Managers have been doing run-throughs with employees on how to manage lines and help customers purchasing items out of different departments.
“If you get in one line, we have runners and they'll actually go and get those things for you so you don't have to worry about getting in six lines,” Andrea Ward, Geek Squad manager at Best Buy, said.
Best Buy will open at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving, but will begin distributing tickets for limited items to people waiting in line at 4 p.m.
J&S Cafeteria will begin serving at 10:45 a.m. through 7:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.
