Woman killed in hit-and-run in High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run Tuesday night where a suspect fled the scene after driving over a woman who was laying down in the street.

Police say the 51-year-old victim was declared deceased at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.

Around 6:50 p.m., police were called to the intersection of Willard Road and Firethorn Drive.

Neighbors say before the accident, the woman was laying down in the road crying.

They tried to get her to move, but she wouldn't.

Police say the suspect ran over the victim and kept going.

Police have found the suspect and are interviewing him.

There is no word yet on if charges will be filed against the driver.
