BURLINGTON, N.C. — A Raleigh woman was arrested Tuesday after a child was badly burned earlier this month, according to Burlington police.

Tayawna Monae Clinkscale, 21, of Raleigh, is charged with felony child abuse.

On Nov. 3, Burlington police were notified by Alamance Regional Medical Center staff of a 3-year-old child who was suffering severe burns to their body.

During the investigation, it was determined that Clinkscale was providing care for the child when the child was burned from an apparent exposure to water, Burlington Police Department Lt. C.E. Gaddis said.

On Tuesday, Clinkscale was charged and is being held in the Alamance County Jail under a $100,000 secured bond.

Clinkscale is not a family member of the victim, Gaddis said.

The child, who was initially treated at ARMC and later transferred to another medical facility, is still listed as being in stable condition.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Burlington police at (336) 229-3503.
