Police investigating assault, attempted kidnapping in Burlington

BURLINGTON, N.C. — The Burlington Police Department is investigating an assault and an attempted kidnapping that happened late Monday night.

Officers responded to 319 Graham Hopedale Road at 10:10 p.m. in reference to an attempted kidnapping.

A 25-year-old woman told officers that a man tried to pull her off the sidewalk and drag her away.

During the attempted kidnapping, the victim was hit in the face. Officers said the woman showed visible signs of injury when they arrived on the scene.

A witness to the assault was able to yell at the attacker and scare him away from the victim, who was then able to run to safety.

The suspect then ran toward East Brook Apartments.

There were no surveillance cameras in the area and the witness has not been located at this time.

According to police, the witness is described as a woman in her late 20s with dirty blonde hair and blue eyes. She was wearing a Walmart vest and may have been driving a Toyota Camry with a spoiler.
