CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer is recovering after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 77 Monday night as she was getting out of her vehicle to chase someone, officials told WSOC.

The officer was hit on I-77 northbound at the Clanton Road exit after she started to run after a man who took off after a routine traffic stop.

Investigators said one car hit another, and that caused the second car to crash into the officer, pinning her.
