WILKES COUNTY, N.C. — Investigators say a Lenoir man has confessed to killing his friend and rolling his body down a roadside embankment, according to WBTV.

Donnie Ellis Ward, 41, of 1913 Swan Dr., Lenoir, was charged with murder in the death of 38-year-old Eleuterio Vasquez Petrez.

Capt. Brandon Absher told the Wilkes Journal-Patriot that it all started when Ward and Petrez began arguing over a domestic matter and pulled over on the side of Stony Fork Road.

That’s when Ward allegedly shot Petrez, dragged him out of the vehicle and rolled him down an embankment.

According to Absher, Ward then drove the vehicle that belonged to Petrez to his home in Lenoir and called 911.

Deputies interviewed Ward and then drove to the location where he confessed to dumping the body.

The Wilkes Rescue Squad was called to help deputies recover the body.

Absher told the Wilkes Journal-Patriot that the two men were acquaintances and once worked together.
