Winston-Salem school crossing guard injured in hit-and-run

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The school crossing guard for South Fork Elementary School was injured in a hit-and-run on Monday afternoon, according to Winston-Salem police.

At about 2:50 p.m., 33-year-old Patrice Heard was working in front of the school when she was struck by a tan minivan traveling west on Country Club Road, Winston-Salem police said. The driver of the van continued west on Country Club without stopping.

Heard suffered minor injuries to her left leg and was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for treatment.
