GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Several local groups held a news conference Monday night to welcome Syrian refugees to the Piedmont Triad.

Organizers say the event is in response to the “intense backlash” against Syrian refugees after the terror attacks in Paris, Beirut and Baghdad.

Co-sponsors include NC African Services Coalition, American Friends Service Committee, Church World Service, Cone Health Family Medicine Refugee Clinic, FaithAction International House, Islamic Center of Greensboro, NC Muslim Outreach Initiative, New Arrivals Institute and the North Carolina Justice Center.

Afterwards, FaithAction International House held a multicultural Thanksgiving potluck dinner.
