BURLINGTON, N.C. – Deputies in Alamance County have arrested a man accused of raping a 15-year-old girl in Burlington.

Antoine Antrowoon Williamson, 29, has been charged with one count of statutory rape.

The suspect was arrested after a traffic stop Saturday on Highway 49 North near McCray Road. He was placed in the Alamance County Jail under a $75,000 secured bond.

A 15-year-old girl contacted the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office and asked for help on Friday morning, according to Burlington Police Department Assistant Chief Chris Verdeck.

Verdeck said a deputy responded to the area of Chase Street between Sydney Avenue and Railroad Street at 11:22 a.m. and found the girl, who told the deputy she was sexually assaulted.

Burlington police were called in to take over the case because the location where she was found is in the city. Verdeck said the girl was a runaway from Mebane.
