Va. man charged in stabbing death of woman, believed to be his girlfriend

MARTINSVILLE, Va. — The Martinsville Police Department has charged a man in connection to the stabbing death of a woman who was believed to be his girlfriend.

Dennis Raymond Grant, 54, of the 100 block of Belmont Street in Martinsville, Va., was charged with second-degree murder.

On Nov. 13, officers responded to a home in the 1300 block of Jarret Drive in reference to a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers found two victims suffering from stab wounds.

Marcey Lynn Penn, 47, who was believed to be Grant’s girlfriend, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Grant, who was suffering from a self-inflicted stab wound, was taken to the Memorial Hospital of Martinsville for treatment. He was later transferred to Carillion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Grant is currently in the custody of the Martinsville Sheriff’s Office at the hospital on a bond revocation, stemming from three counts of second-offense sale of cocaine.
