CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are searching for a thief who targeted an elderly woman with a walker.

The 70-year-old victim,  Leah Sepsemwol, told WCNC that she’s faced some serious health problems the past few years — including five strokes.

“She has come from people not thinking she would live. She is one of the bravest people I know of,” Sepsemwol’s close friend, Carol Bentley, told WCNC.

During her recovery, Sepsemwol had to use a walker to get around.

Last Tuesday as she and Bentley were drying their clothes at a laundromat on Monroe Road, Sepsemwol nodded off to sleep. As she was sleeping, someone stole her purse, which was on her walker.

“It’s a terrible thing to see a walker and know that somebody needs it and whatever is attached to that walker, and it’s troubling to me,” Sepsemwol said.

Since then, Sepsemwol has been working to cancel and replace all of her bank cards.

“It just makes me so mad that somebody would do this to anybody in her condition,” Bentley said.
