BURLINGTON, N.C. -- Police are searching for two suspects in connection with two armed robberies less than a mile apart that happened before sunrise Tuesday.

At 5 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a reported armed robbery at Walmart, located at 530 S. Graham Hopedale Road, according to Sgt. J. Matherly.

The victim said he was walking out to his car from the store when he observed a two-door burgundy vehicle pulling into the parking spot next to his.

The victim told police that two men exited the vehicle, approached him with a handgun and demanded money.

According to Matherly, the suspects took his cash and car keys and fled the area in the burgundy vehicle.

Fifteen minutes later, officers responded to an armed robbery at 1940 Martin St., which is less than a mile from the Walmart.

The victim told police he had parked his car at this address and got out to go to work when he was approached by a suspect who brandished a handgun and demanded money.

The victim said after he gave the suspect his money, the suspect got into the passenger side of the burgundy vehicle and fled the area.

Police believe the two robberies are connected.

Surveillance photos of the suspect vehicle have been released, but will not be shown pending an ongoing investigation by police.
