PHILADELPHIA — A pair of zebras made a daring escape from a circus in West Philadelphia Sunday afternoon.

Officials with the UniverSoul Circus told KYW the zebras escaped around 2 p.m. outside the Mann Center for Performing Arts.

Many residents took to social media to post photos and videos of the animals running through the streets.

Gerry Wilkinson told KYW that he was with his wife and daughter when they spotted one of the runaway zebras.

“In the center barrier, right past our car, runs a zebra,” Wilkinson said. “I’ve never seen a zebra on City Line Avenue. Even people who drink probably have never seen a zebra on City Line Avenue.”

Both zebras were eventually corralled after a brief police chase through the city.

Philadelphia police posted to Twitter at 3 p.m. saying, “Zebras in custody. They are already sporting old-timey prisoner getup ahead of trial and sentencing. Have faith, fellas.”
