Colin Toler, 6, lost his father on Sept. 30.
According to WSET, his dad promised to take him to a Panthers game but passed away before he got the chance.
Friends of the family gave Colin’s family tickets to Sunday’s matchup against the Green Bay Packers and both of his grandparents attended with him.
When Newton scored a one-yard touchdown in the second quarter, he gave Colin the ball after the incident with Peppers.
“I was like oh gosh, oh gosh,” Colin told WSET. “Am I going to be on the big screen or am I going to be on TV? I was jumping up and down like yeah!”
Newton reportedly did not know the backstory of how or why Colin was at the stadium.
Colin’s family told WSET that complete strangers in the stands also went out of their way to make his day special.
