Human remains found near Julian in Randolph County; body had multiple gunshot wounds

RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. — Human remains were discovered near Julian on Friday, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release on Monday night.

On Friday, deputies responded to a 911 call concerning unidentified human remains being found near the intersection of U.S. 421 and Shiloh Road.

Investigators with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office located the remains of a white male who was in an advanced stage of decomposition, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office said the body had multiple gunshot wounds and those were determined to be the probable cause of death.

The body was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for identification.

An autopsy was performed on Monday. The identity of the victim is currently known to the sheriff’s office but is being withheld pending notification to the next of kin.

The investigation is ongoing.
