NC residents evacuated after gas line ruptures

People evacuated in a 1-mile radius around Kannapolis ruptured gas line.

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Officials evacuated about 40 residents Thursday night as a precaution after a gas line ruptured at Mooresville and Stirewalt roads and Crofton Avenue.

Multiple calls to Kannapolis Communications stated that there was a loud, hissing noise coming from the natural gas substation, Kannapolis Fire Department officials said.

Firefighters got to the scene shortly after 9 p.m.

Mooresville Road was immediately shut down from Kannapolis Parkway to Trinity Church Road.
