RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. — A Chatham County man was killed Friday morning in Randolph County when the transfer truck he was a passenger in overturned.

Christopher McNeill, 24, of Bennett, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Chris Knox, Master Trooper at North Carolina Department of Public Safety.

The crash happened as a flatbed Freightliner truck driven by 28-year-old James Emerson of Bear Creek overturned after going around a curve and hitting a culvert.

Authorities were called to the scene at about 7:50 a.m. Friday at 6678 N.C. 42 at Moffitt Mill Road.

The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The trailer lost its load and plywood spilled on the road.

Charges against the driver are pending, but it is not believed that drugs or alcohol were involved.
