Eastern Guilford student charged in fatal wreck

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — A high school senior accused of driving his car into a school bus in a head-on crash that killed a passenger faces multiple charges, including that he had a reckless encounter with another school bus about 20 minutes before the fatal crash and was driving under the influence of drugs.

These new details come from interviews and court documents related to the incident last August near McLeanville, when Jacob Almon Larkin, 18, of Whitsett, is accused of having caused an accident that killed one and injured four.

He faces eight total charges, including one count of felony death by a motor vehicle. Other charges are:

  • 4 counts felony serious injury by motor vehicle.
  • 1 count DWI.
  • 1 count failure to stop for a stopped school bus.
  • 1 count reckless driving.
