GREENSBORO, N.C. — A white Elon law school student who directed a racial slur at a black classmate earlier this month is no longer enrolled.

In an email Tuesday to Elon University School of Law students, faculty and alumni, Dean Luke Bierman said the student “has taken responsibility for using the slur (and) is remorseful.”

Bierman did not say if the law school expelled the student or if the student withdrew. A law school spokesman did not identify the student, citing privacy laws, and declined to comment beyond what was in the email.

“This outcome demonstrates our responsibility to take such incidents seriously and in a manner that reflects the values and priorities of Elon Law, which include our shared commitments for inclusive community, safe and open learning environments, and accountability for our individual actions,” Bierman wrote in the email.
