DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — Highway Patrol has identified the woman killed in an accident on I-85 South near Thomasville on Tuesday night.

Taylor Chafatelli, 21, of Elon, died at the scene of the crash, which happened at 8:28 p.m. near Exit 103/Thomasville.

Troopers said Chafatelli was driving back to Catawba College in Salisbury when she collided with a tractor-trailer.

Chafatelli was in the process of passing the tractor-trailer when she merged into the tractor-trailer’s lane. The passenger side of her car and the tractor-trailer’s front wheel made contact, Highway Patrol said.

The car went under the tractor-trailer and hit the right guardrail multiple times, troopers said.

Chafatelli was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was ejected from the vehicle, troopers said.
