DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. -- A woman was killed in an accident on Interstate 85 South near Thomasville on Tuesday evening, according to Highway Patrol.

The accident happened on I-85 South near Exit 103/Thomasville at 8:28 p.m.

A female driver of a car traveling southbound on I-85 about one mile from the Lake Road exit lost control of the car, troopers said.

The car hit the guardrail and spun out on the interstate. The driver may or may not have hit a tractor-trailer as it was out of control, troopers said.

According to troopers, the car then slammed into a guardrail again, ejecting the driver who was not wearing a seatbelt.

Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the driver to lose control of the car.

There is no word on other injuries.

The name of the deceased has not been released.
