Greensboro shooting victim identified; police seek help in locating family members

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The victim in this morning’s shooting near the intersection of Ashland Drive and Harvard Avenue has been identified as Jason Mariott Smith.

Smith, 34, has no known address and attempts to find a next of kin have been unsuccessful, police said.

Smith was discovered at approximately 1:55 a.m. when a passer-by found him in critical condition as a result of a gunshot wound. At approximately the same time, Guilford Metro 911 received calls after people heard gunfire in the nearby area.

There are no known eyewitnesses to the incident.

Police are encouraging Smith’s friends and family members and anyone with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers at (336) 373-1000.

Smith remains in critical condition, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
