Police identify NC man charged with killing a mother and her 1-year-old child

WILMINGTON, N.C. — Police have identified a man who allegedly killed a mother and her 1-year-old and seriously injured her 3-year-old.

Darrell Gerard Taylor, 34, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, and one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon, according to WECT.

Taylor is also charged with the attempted murder of another woman. Police said her relation to the other victims is still unclear.

The violent attack happened just before 6:30 a.m. Sunday at the Greentree apartment complex located in the 4700 block of Greentree Road.

When officers arrived on the scene they saw a man outside one of the apartments with is hands behind his back.

The man was ordered to show the officers his hands and that is when he tossed a gun onto the ground.

Taylor was then taken into custody.

Authorities said they found a 30-year-old woman and her 1-year-old dead in a car. The 3-year-old was also found in the car suffering from serious injuries.

Another woman was found injured outside the vehicle. She and the 3-year-old were taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Taylor is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
