CENTER LINE, Mich. – A man in Michigan started a gas station fire after trying to kill a spider with a lighter while pumping gas.

WJBK reported that surveillance video from the Mobil gas station in Center Line shows flames quickly engulfing the man’s car and the gas pump.

The man was pumping gas on Friday when he saw a spider near his gas tank. So he took a lighter and set it on fire, which then caused a fire at the gas station.

A gas station employee witnessed the incident and said she hit the gas automatic stop button and called the fire department. The man pumping gas put out the fire with a fire extinguisher.

The man’s car was barely damaged and nobody was injured. A gas station employee said the man apologized, referring to the incident as “pure stupidity.”
