GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The 11th annual Triad Veterans Stand Down event was held at Westover Church Friday to help veterans facing homelessness.
Organizers estimate 200 veterans attended the event.
“There's no excuse for it. There's no excuse for any veteran to be homeless, so that's why we're here today. To try to decrease those numbers,” said Shanna Reece, executive director of the Servant Center and co-chair of the Stand Down committee. “Guilford County has come a long way to getting veterans out of the homeless situation. Many of them are in shelters now and not on the street, which is what we're trying to do. Make sure there's nobody literally on the street.”
Representatives from more than 65 organizations attended the event to offer services like clothing, food, employment services, medical screenings, assistance with VA claims, mental health screenings, and legal services.
