Man attacked while investigating strange noise outside his home in Liberty

LIBERTY, N.C. — An investigation is underway after a man was assaulted during an attempted burglary in Liberty early Wednesday morning.

Deputies responded to a report of a burglary in progress at a home located at 7440 Shatterly Road, just after 2 a.m.

When they arrived they found a victim with severe lacerations to the head.

The victim told deputies he was investigating a strange noise outside his home when he was attacked by an unknown suspect with a large edged weapon.

The victim was able to notify other family members who then called 911.

EMS took the victim to a local hospital for treatment.

So far there is no suspect information.

Crime Stoppers will pay a cash reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to the arrest or indictment of the individual(s) responsible.
