The Kings Mountain Herald reported that 77-year-old Eugene Holmes is currently running for mayor of Kings Mountain, a small suburban city within the Charlotte metropolitan area.

“If you elect me, I’ll uphold the law of the state of North Carolina,” Holmes said, according to the paper. “I would get the D.A. to swear out a warrant on any man who says he’s gay. Sodomy is a crime, a felony in the state of North Carolina.”

Holmes continued, saying, “What’s wrong with eradicating homosexuals? We should jail them, throw them all in jail!”

Holmes is a Korean War veteran who reportedly makes a living selling various wares at flea markets.

He is also a convicted felon who has been arrested for disorderly conduct charges. In 1985, he was sentenced to 10 years for larceny and was released after nearly five years.

Holmes also said he wants to see alcohol, divorce and all immigration into the United States be made illegal. He plans on listing his first name on the ballot as “Sherlock.”

He is going up against a six-term incumbent. Election Day is Nov. 3.
