All lanes of I-40 East now open after tractor-trailer hits bridge support in Guilford County

UPDATE — All lanes of I-40 East in western Guilford County are now open.

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — A tractor-trailer struck a bridge support on I-40 East in western Guilford County Tuesday evening, causing major traffic delays.

According to Guilford Metro 911, the accident was reported at 5:26 p.m.

The accident happened where Macy Grove Road passes over I-40.

Guilford County Fire and EMS are on the scene.

According to NCDOT, all eastbound lanes of I-40 are closed and the left lane heading westbound is also closed as of 9 p.m.

Crews hope to have all lanes reopened by Wednesday morning.

The tractor-trailer driver escaped the truck with minor injuries.
