MARION, N.C. — Authorities arrested a convicted sex offender after discovering he had been living and working in North Carolina using his dead brother’s name, WHNS reported.

Mark Allen Rawson, 53,  was wanted in Texas for failing to register as a sex offender and in Colorado for two counts of felony probation violation. Authorities arrested him at a home in Marion on Monday.

Rawson was on probation in Colorado for sexual exploitation of a minor. He fled the state in 2011.

U.S. Marshals investigating in Texas discovered Rawson had taken on the identity of his deceased brother, Robert Charles Rawson, after leaving Colorado.

Robert Charles Rawson died in 1974 in a fire in Phoenix, Arizona. Mark Rawson acquired a driver’s license in his brother’s name.

After a state trooper issued Rawson a speeding ticket in Marion, U.S. Marshals soon learned that Rawson had been living and working in North Carolina using his brother’s name for a year.
