TROUTMAN, N.C. — A North Carolina mother has been arrested after officials said her 1-year-old baby overdosed on pills.

WBTV reported that Abishai Cox of Mooresville faces several charges including felony child abuse by neglect and simple possession of a Schedule II controlled substance.

The young daughter consumed a hydrocodone pill and 7 klonopin pills from her mother’s purse, according to officials.

It reportedly happened earlier this month and resulted in the child being taken to the hospital. The baby was admitted for overnight observation.

Iredell County’s Department of Social Services was called to take custody of the child, according to WBTV.

The suspect was jailed under a $2,500 bond and has court planned for later this month.
