Suspect in rape, fatal shooting in NC on the run

RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh police are searching for a 21-year-old man in connection with two shootings – one fatal – and a sexual assault that happened in Raleigh Monday.

Detectives have obtained arrest warrants charging Kendrick Keyanti Gregory in connection with the three incidents.

The first one happened around 9 a.m. at the Knights Inn hotel in the 3800 block of New Bern Avenue. Police said Lenin Alvaringa, 27, was shot in the back during a robbery. Gregory has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

He is also charged with murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with the murder and robbery of Mr. Pawn Check Cashing owner Thomas Melvin Durant, 64, that happened around 7 p.m. at 4630 Capital Blvd.
