Man charged with attempting to meet 14-year-old in Boone for sex

BOONE, N.C. — A 28-year-old man is charged after allegedly driving across the country to meet a 14-year-old girl for sex, WBTV reported.

A detective posed on a popular social media website, where JP Thrower of Selma, Oregon, sought them out, initiating the encounter. Thrower, who was he was visiting family in Boone, requested to meet at a hotel there on a specific date for sexual purposes.

When Thrower arrived, he was arrested.

He is charged with felony attempted first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, felony soliciting of a child by computer and felony dissemination of obscenity.

He is in jail under a $150,000 bond. His court date is set for Sept. 17.
