Child struck, killed by car near SC elementary school

PAGELAND, S.C. — A child died after being struck by a car near a South Carolina elementary school early Tuesday morning.

Officials at Pageland Elementary School told WSOC that a family came to the school to enroll their children in classes just after 9:30 a.m.

One of the children went back to the family’s car to retrieve documents and was hit while crossing the street.

According to WSOC, the child was rushed to Carolinas Medical Center-Union but died less than an hour after arrival.

Grief counselors will be available at the school throughout the day.
