CHATHAM COUNTY, N.C. — The search for a kayaker who went missing Thursday evening in Chatham County is expected to resume at 8 a.m. on Friday.

Tommie Columbus Justice Jr., 69, of Cary, was reported missing after kayaking on Jordan Lake, according to WRAL.

A witness reported seeing a kayak upside down on the lake Thursday. Authorities later confirmed that the kayak belongs to Justice.

A spokeswoman with Chatham County told WRAL that Justice was last seen at 12:20 a.m.

“One of the biggest challenges was a point last known, not knowing exactly where the subject was at,” North Chatham Fire Chief John Strowed told WRAL.

Thursday crews searched the area around the Farrington Point boat ramp.

Justice was last seen wearing black shorts and a striped tank shirt.
