SALISBURY, N.C. – A North Carolina pastor plans to arm certain members of his church.

WNCN reported that Melvin Clark, Reverend at Washington Missionary Baptist Church in Salisbury, plans to take 10 parishioners and turn them into trained security guards.

Clark told the TV station that his church was targeted by a gunman back in 2002. He said he was held at gunpoint and taken hostage.

“It’s putting a plan in action that we interface with our local law enforcement,” Clark said, referring to his new plan.

Clark said the members of the church he plans on arming will get the proper licensing and training.

The church already has security cameras and for most the day, people need to be buzzed in to enter.
