‘Black Lives Matter’ spray-painted on NC Confederate monument

ALBEMARLE, N.C. — “Black Lives Matter” was spray-painted on a Confederate monument in downtown Albemarle at West Main and South Depot streets.

WSOC reported that the monument is in Liberty Gardens, which is a park that also honors first responders and veterans.

Other words were spray-painted on the front of the monument.

The vandalism happened between 10 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. Thursday, according to Police Chief William Halliburton.
