Car hits gas line in High Point, building evacuated, driver to be charged with DWI

HIGH POINT, N.C. — A driver who hit a gas line and building in High Point Tuesday will be charged with a DWI, authorities said.

The driver hit a gas line outside a building in the Fairfield Square Shopping Center at about 11:30 a.m. The center is located at the corner of East Fairfield Road and South Main Street.

Piedmont Natural Gas responded to the scene. Firefighters were also called because of the leak.

The strip mall was evacuated.
