Two dead, two officers hurt in North Carolina shooting

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. – Two men were killed, two police officers injured and another person injured in a North Carolina shooting on Saturday night.

Gaston County police said the officers were called to a home in Gastonia shortly before 9:30 p.m. in connection to a shooting.

The caller said his dad had been shot and the suspect was still in the house. Numerous other 911 calls started coming in concerning an active shooter, according to police.

Police said officers responded to the scene and were confronted outside a residence by a suspect holding a shotgun and wearing a pistol.

Gunfire was exchanged between the suspect and officers. During the exchange, two officers were wounded and the suspect was fatally wounded.

Officers also found a victim of a fatal shooting at a second location in the neighborhood, according to police. The identity of that victim has not been released.

A third shooting victim was found at another home. She was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Both the officers were also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is investigating. The Gaston County Police officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the completion of the investigation.
