GREENSBORO, N.C. — First Presbyterian is closing its day care, but not its popular half-day program, citing costs and public and private schools opening programs for even younger children.

First School employs 18 full-time staff with benefits and five part-time employees. The half-day educational program, with 150 children, operates using part-time staff.

During a meeting Tuesday, parents were told that the day care, which has 70 children enrolled, would close in October. Six of those children would have left the program anyway to enter kindergarten this fall.
