Volunteers work to protect sea turtles along the NC coast

OAK ISLAND, N.C. -- It's vacation season and lots of people are headed to the beach.

All along the North Carolina coast it is sea turtle nesting season as well and efforts to protect the endangered species are underway.

At Oak Island, more than 200 volunteers are doing their part to help the gentle creatures.

Every morning during turtle season, from May to October, volunteers ride the beach looking for new nests and checking on old ones.
