MONROE, N.C. — A Monroe man has been charged with the murder of a man who was caught “peeping” at a teenage girl in May 2014.

Keith Edward McCarthy, 41, was charged with first-degree murder after police found Jaime Toledano Hernandez’s dismembered body in a barrel in the woods, according to WCNC.

McCarthy was also charged with robbery and trying to cover up the murder.

Investigators have not said if the two men knew each other. They also have not revealed whether the May 2014 “peeping” incident played a role in the murder.

Hernandez was reported missing last Tuesday. Officials have not released the cause of death.

McCarthy is being held at the Union County Jail.
