HOBART, Australia – A woman watched her father get killed in a shark attack off the Australian coast on Saturday, according to police.
The Associated Press reported that it happened to an unidentified victim in his 40s who was diving with his daughter off the Australian island state of Tasmania.
The woman returned to their boat with scallops they collected and became concerned that her father had not surfaced after her, according to officials.
“His daughter became worried and went down and checked on her father,” said Inspector David Wiss. “She saw a very large shark. She saw her father being attacked by the shark.”
Sharks are common off Australia’s beaches, but fatal attacks are rare, according to the Associated Press. A 15-foot great white shark was seen in that area a day before the attack.
