Did you feel the ground shake in Surry County?

SURRY COUNTY, N.C. – Did you feel the earth move in Surry County on Sunday afternoon? A lot of people there apparently did.

The 911 call center said they got numerous calls from the Ararat area from people saying the ground was shaking.

The calls started coming in at about 3:30 p.m. and some callers said they heard some kind of explosion, according to authorities.

Officials said the affected area from the calls appeared to be within a four mile radius.

Surry County deputies have investigated the incident, but so far have not been able to find a cause.
