Compared to how long it took for African-Americans to gain full civil rights, it seems like the same journey for gays and lesbians was moving at lightning speed until it hit a bump last fall.

After laws like North Carolina’s Amendment One (which limited marriage to one man and one woman) were overturned, there was resistance to those legal rulings all across the country, including North Carolina.
