KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. — Beachgoers were witnesses to a bizarre sight recently when a couple tried to get into the ocean with what appeared to be makeshift shark cages.

Jordan Cutrell recorded the video and posted it to YouTube on Tuesday. Multiple media outlets report that she told WITN the video was recorded Sunday.

A Kill Devil Hills lifeguard stopped the couple and told them what they were doing would put saving them at risk if they needed help, Cutrell said.

Cutrell said the makeshift cages appeared to be made out of plastic and not out of something that would prevent a shark attack.
