‘Armed and dangerous’ Burlington bank robber taken into custody

DURHAM COUNTY, N.C. — A man wanted for a Burlington bank robbery is now in custody.

Stephen Royster Hicks was taken into custody after a high-speed chase in Durham and Person counties on Tuesday evening, according to WTVD.

Hicks, 34, of Siler City, was wanted by police for one count of armed robbery and two counts of second-degree kidnapping. Police said Hicks was considered armed and dangerous.

On Monday at approximately 2:05 p.m., police responded to a report of an armed robbery at the SunTrust Bank located at 2211 Maple Ave. in Burlington.

Employees said Hicks entered the business with a handgun and demanded money. The teller complied and gave him an undisclosed amount of money.

During the robbery, an employee received minor injuries after being assaulted by Hicks, police said. The employee did not require medical attention.
