WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Police have identified the suspect in an officer-involved shooting that happened over the weekend.

Kevin Terrell Harvey, 25, of Winston-Salem, is charged with assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm and two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon.

Harvey was placed in the Forsyth County Detention Center on Wednesday after having been captured and taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center shortly after the incident on Saturday.

The shooting happened after police responded to an apartment in the 1100 block of Academy Street shortly before 9 a.m. Saturday.

Police said three Winston-Salem officers responded to the apartment in reference to a suspect who might be homicidal or suicidal.

When police arrived, an officer and Harvey exchanged gunfire and Harvey later jumped out of a second-story apartment window, according to police.

Officer Larry D. Blevins, 48, shot at Harvey, according to police. Police said the officer told Harvey to drop his weapon, but Harvey did not listen.

Harvey jumped out of the window and led police on a foot chase, according to officers. Harvey was captured and taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

Harvey’s bond has been set at $130,000 secured and he is scheduled to appear in court July 30.
